This policy covers the NeedleDroppr iPhone app, which picks a random record from your Discogs collection. It’s made by one person, François-Pierre Grenier, and it’s built to know as little about you as possible.
The short version
- NeedleDroppr doesn’t collect your data. There are no accounts, analytics, ads or trackers, and nothing is sent to me.
- The app talks only to Discogs, for your collection, and to Wikipedia, for album descriptions.
- Everything the app saves stays on your iPhone and is deleted with the app.
Your Discogs login
NeedleDroppr requires a Discogs login. You sign in on Discogs’ own page, so the app never sees your password; Discogs gives the app a key that lets it read your collection. That key is stored in the iOS Keychain on your iPhone and sent only to Discogs. Logging out in Settings deletes it. You can also revoke the app’s access at any time in your Discogs account settings.
What the app asks Discogs for
The app asks Discogs for your profile name and picture, your collection and its folders, your ratings, the releases’ tracklists, and your collection’s estimated value. When you tap the stars under a record, the app saves that rating to your Discogs collection. It changes nothing else on Discogs. Album descriptions
To find an album’s description, the app sends Wikipedia and Wikidata the album’s title, the artist and its Discogs ID. Nothing about you is included. The Wikimedia Privacy Policy covers those requests.
What’s saved on your iPhone
So picks are instant, the app keeps a copy of your collection, the tracklists and descriptions it has already looked up, and your Past Drops. They never leave your iPhone. You can clear Past Drops in Settings, and deleting the app removes everything.
Children
NeedleDroppr isn’t directed at children and doesn’t knowingly collect anyone’s personal information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
